The RMO provides guidance and support to each Local Authority in Ireland helping develop best practice in the management of our road assets. Services include:

  • Developing and providing supports to Roads Authorities in recording the condition and extent of the road network along with recoding and analysing pavement and other improvements made. 
  • Development of best practice procedures and approaches including management of roadworks by critical utilities including Water, Broadband and Energy.
  • Development and management of the MapRoad ICT suite of desktop software and mobile applications 

The RMO provides services and supports in the areas of roadworks maintenance and upgrading, active travel, climate action and adaption, drainage, bridges, road licensing, public lighting, procurement, data management, analysis, and reporting, and continues to develop its services portfolio and areas of operation.

The RMO works closely with various stakeholders including the Department of Transport, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, The National Transport Authority and The Local Government Management Agency.

The Road Management Office (RMO) is a Local Authority shared service set up in 2014 following development of a business case by the Local Authority Sector for the establishment of a sectoral centre of excellence for the management of road assets across Ireland.
