The Road Management Office (RMO) was established in 2014 as a specialist shared services centre to support asset management for public roads across the 31 local authorities in Ireland.

Over 10 years of operations, we have steadily evolved and grown in terms of the scale and range of our services which include provision of road asset management tools, the development of public lighting asset management and the provision and support of a licensing system for road openings by all utilities and others in Ireland.  Our role has developed to include supporting the implementation of national policy objectives and to be an advisor on asset information and reporting.  The office is now regarded as an indispensable enabler of roads management capability in Ireland.

The RMO works closely with various government stakeholders including the Department of Transport, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, The National Transport Authority and The Local Government Management Agency as well as all the major utilities.
